NHS funding in Scotland cut
The NHS in Scotland remains the best funded in the UK, but faces a funding cut in future, the BMJ warned on 9 December.
Over the past three years its funding increased by 33% but this is set to fall to just 13% over the next three years, the article warned. The gap between funding in Scotland and the rest of the UK is also set to fall. Annual funding levels in 2007/08 per head of population were:
- Scotland: £1,919
- Wales: £1,798
- Northern Ireland: £1,770
- England: £1,676
In recent years, PMI has become more popular in Scotland and this latest move is likely to encourage more Scots to look at PMI to supplement their NHS care.
